CIS - Flats start to fall- 19 Oct 10

There are some fluctuations on the billet market last week at Black Sea but generally range was similar to previous week.
Within the last week the prices increased quite rapidly and there were transactions for the product at the level of USD 515 per tonne to USD 530 per tonne FOB Black Sea. After achieving these levels, some suppliers tried to further increase price, but haven’t succeeded in this, it seems.
The situation on the market of finished longs was really incomprehensive last week as it was difficult to get all pieces together. The most part of offers were in the range of USD 560 per tonne to USD 590 per tonne FOB Black for both WRC and rebars. At the same time there are reports about transactions either with much higher rates for small quantities of material at around USD 600 per tonne or for much cheaper quotations below USD 550 per tonne. The market is under pressure of the winter season come and offers from competitors.
The finished flats prices are under correction, but generally the market is fine. The Ukrainian HRC was traded in the range of USD 570 per tonne to USD 590 per tonne although offer prices were up to USD 600 per tonne, but mostly unrealistic. The Russian mills also decreased prices by USD 10 per tonne to USD 20 per tonne and were eying USD 600 pr tonne to USD 630 FOB Black Sea ports. The plate price was more stable, but also declined a little bit.
