Production pruning - Ukrainian steel mills to see recovery

According preliminary data, Ukrainian steel producers will increase production in January 2009. As per report, most of the producers increased their production plans because of pick up in export demand on flat products as well as billet and slab.

Total steel output in January expected by 2.2 million tonnes that is 15%YoY more than in December and practically the same level as in September 2008.

According to Millennium capital analyst “We can say this is first good news in 2009 because significance of steel works output in Ukrainian Economics can not be overestimated. The hopes on currency rate stabilization, on budget filling and on others sides of Ukrainian life depend of the growth of Ukrainian metallurgy. We believe that it is just beginning.”
