Sis Ram Ola, India’s Minister of Mines, indicated that India’s domestic iron ore production during 2007-2008 is 53.9 million tons, while consumption is much higher as 80 million tons.
The demand for iron ore will increase to 130 million tons during 2011-2012.
Consequently, the government has reinstated exploitation of some iron ore mines and is planning to expand iron ore explorations. Source: Yieh.com
