La Cámara Venezolana de la Construcción said that the country's construction industry was recently affected by the shortage of deformed steel bar.
According to CVC data, Venezuela's shortage of deformed steel bar in July 2011 reached 76%, consequently, some construction projects have been forced to postpone.
Though the two major local steelmakers Sidor and Sidetur have the sufficient production capacity of deformed steel bar, their monthly supply to government's house building project has caused the shortage to other construction projects.
Thus, CVC requested the government to re exam the share and approve to import 100,000 tonnes of deformed steel bar per month.
