The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased last week (ended August 6), with output rising 1.1 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended July 30), US raw steel production had increased 1.5 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,879,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week and a 14.1 percent jump from the same week last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.8 percent in the week ending August 6, compared to 76 percent in the previous week and 68.1 percent in the same week of last year.
