US raw steel production increases 1.5 percent- 06 Aug 11

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased last week (ended July 30), with output rising a slight 1.5 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended July 23), US raw steel production had decreased 2.6 percent compared to the week before.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,858,000 net tons (nt) last week; in addition to the 1.5 percent increase from the prior week's 1,830,000 nt, the total is up 10.3 percent from the 1,684,000 produced in the same week last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76 percent in the week ending July 30, compared to 74.8 percent in the previous week and 69.6 percent in the same week of last year.
