Domestic and export prices for Turkish structurals stable so far- 26 Jul 11

Demand for structurals remains moderate in the Turkish domestic market, while foreign buyers are still barely active. Local trading companies book only small volumes of the material, keeping stocks at optimal levels. At the same time, Turkish producers have left both export and domestic prices for structurals unchanged so far. However, market players believe domestic mills will have to cut export quotations in order to stir foreign buyers up. Besides, domestic offers are likely to drop on weak demand in the home market during Ramadan.
Domestic prices for structurals in the national currency stay at last week’s level so far. However, offers to local buyers have dropped by $5/t on the weaker lira.
Although Turkish mills are holding export quotations of the material at the previous level, some of them are reportedly ready to grant discounts while closing deals. With regard to foreign buyers, trading companies from the UAE are showing some interest in the material. They have had to resume purchases amid growing domestic demand and due to depleted stocks of the material. At the beginning of the week, deals for delivery of large batches of Turkish channel and beam to the UAE were closed at $810/t C&F ($770/t FOB).
Although most Saudi Arabian buyers keep insisting on discounts, some contracts for small lots of structurals were signed at the end of last week. In particular, deals for equal angle and flat bar were reportedly made at $797/t C&F ($762/t FOB) and $828/t C&F ($783/t FOB), respectively.
Syrian and Lebanese traders say they are not ready to book Turkish material at current offer prices and bid by at least $15-20/t lower.
Buyers from Iraq are reportedly ready to accept offers from suppliers of Turkish structural steel amid solid demand in the domestic market, but no deals have been reported yet.
Traders from Israel and Morocco refrain from buying so far, expecting prices for Turkish structurals to go down soon.
