US raw steel production drops 2.9 percent- 04 Apr 11

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) US raw steel production declined last week (ended April 30) with output dropping 2.9 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended April 22), US raw steel production had fallen 1.1 percent compared to the week before.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,788,000 nt last week. This figure represents a 2.9 percent reduction from the 1,840,000 nt produced in the prior week, and is down 0.9 percent from the 1,754,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 73.1 percent in the week ending April 30, compared to 75.2 percent in the prior week and 72.5 percent in the same week last year.
