Turkey buys 800,000 tons scrap from western countries

In the early January this year, Turkish mills like Ekinciler and Habas have imported 20 containers of scrap from suppliers in western countries like Australian Sims Group and Belgian Scrap Terminal NV, reaching a volume of 800,000 tons.

The price of H1&H2 (80:20), shredded scrap and bonus were quoted at US$283-285/ton, US$288-290/ton and US$295/ton C&F respectively, up by US$5/ton on the previous price.

Although the staggering exports volume, western countries stand a fat chance to lift the scrap price dramatically. In contrast, East-Asian countries are willing to pay US$300/ton C&F for imported scrap and China bids US$310/ton for heavy scrap. Source:Yieh.com
