Egypt government made the decision to introduce duties for Turkish rebar import to protect domestic manufacturers’ interests. The Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt reports.

At that the Ministry emphasized that Egypt would never allow damage to domestic manufacturers. Besides, the Ministry promised to encourage new projects on manufacturing of steel semis, which are the main raw material for rebar production.

As reported, in Nov. 2009 de-bar export from Turkey decreased by about 15% to 562.594 thousand tons as compared with October 2009. It was caused mainly by the consumers’ intention to by rebar from domestic manufacturers.

It is worth noticing that key importers of Turkish steel rebar are Egypt, UAE, Iraq, Algeria, and Libya.
