According to the report, the steel import of the Middle East slid by 27 percent during the first half of 2009.However, the Middle East still is the biggest net steel import area which imported 13.06 million tons of steel in the first half of 2009.

Turkey is the largest steel exporter to the Middle East, which exported 3.17 million tons to the Middle East. Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia exported 2.89 million tons and 2.4 million tons respectively.

Iran is the biggest steel importer in the Middle East which imported about 3.8 million tons in the first half of 2009.
