Pakistan likely to impose duty on steel imports

The Ministry of industries and production of Pakistan MOIP has suggested 10% to 15% regulated duty on the import of steel products in order to protect domestic steel industry. The ministry has decided to provide some incentive to the largest steel producing company of the country which is owned by the government.

This imposition of duties on the imports of steel products was suggested by Pakistan Steel Mills Corporation as it was suffering from increasing loss on account of low sales on domestic level as well as huge price cuts in steel prices over the globe. Earlier, PSMC had attempted several time to maintain high import trade price of steel products including cold rolled coils, hot rolled coil and galvanized products.
